Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, develops and implements strategies for the copyright and related rights to achieve its mandate.
- Administers the laws related to Copyright and Related Rights and be responsible for registration of Copyright Works
- Formulates and updates Laws on Copyright and Related Rights in accordance with international standards
- Submits and recommends the policy direction for the Copyright Administration and to plan and carry out the program of activities to strengthen the institutional and professional capacity of the Office
- Implements and manages strategic relationships with clients, Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs), regional and international partners.
- Administers, supervises and provides guidance to Collective Management Organizations (CMO)
- Registers copyrights, neighboring rights, CMOs, licenses and assignments.
- Acts as the focal person for national copyrights information.
- Builds up a network of treaty relationships for the protection of the works of authors and other creators abroad
- Assists the right holders in commercializing their works and maximizing the economic utilization of their creative property assets through the setup of well-functioning collective management societies
- Addresses questions and queries from interested persons on intellectual property matters, prepares legislative action plan, and reviews existing laws on intellectual property for conformity and compliance with the requirements of the Trade- Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights Agreement and regulations.
- Holds hearings and functions as a tribunal under the law and supervises the performance of duties and functions
- Submits advice on questions relating to the revision of laws, rules and office procedures pertaining to the field of Intellectual Property
- Strengthens and improves the administrative set up and the mechanisms for enforcement of intellectual property rights
- Supervises, appraise and generally manage the performance and development of staff of the directorate in line with the Human Resource Regulations.
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Director Industrial Property.

- To set up an efficient system for the grant of titles and rights to creators and owners of copyright and related rights by commercializing their works, which will further spur the growth of creative cultural industries and lead to an enhanced quality of life for the citizens.
Qualification and Experience
- An Honors’ degree in law, social sciences or related discipline.
- At least five (5) years working experience in a reputable public or private organisation, three (3) of which at a supervisory level
- Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to registration duties.
