Nurse Job at Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP)

Role Title: Nurse

Role Summary: To provide continuous comprehensive nursing care and treatment to HIV/AIDS infected patients in line with Program clinical guidelines and procedures

Reports to: ISS Clinic Manager Duration: 3 months (To be hired on rolling basis)

Location: Mulago ISS Clinic

Duties and responsibilities

 Receive patients and their files, assess, take patients vital signs

 Review patients’ prescriptions, explain the procedure and possible side effects and administer the drug(s) in line with program guidelines and procedures

 Conduct both initial and ongoing counseling, attend to clinical nurse’s only visits (clerking, examination and prescription of drugs) to stable patients

 Assess, prepare and conduct health education talks to patients and implement infection control practices in the clinic

 Give reproductive health services including family planning and cervical cancer screening services to clients

 Provide continuous on job guidance to Nursing Assistants and expert clients in controlling clinic flow and performing general health education talks

 Collect, document and keep nursing records

 Assess, maintain and organize the clinic stock (drugs, equipment and sundries).

Job Specifications:

 Must have a Degree in Nursing, Comprehensive Nursing or Registered Nursing.

 Must be registered with the nurses council

 Training in comprehensive HIV/AIDS management

 At least two years’ experience in a busy clinical setting

 Good interpretive skills and attention to detail

 Excellent interpersonal, communication and counselling skills
