Job Title: Principal Marine Officer
Salary scale: U2 Reports to Assistant Commissioner Water Quality Information Management Systems
Supervises: Assistant Marine Officer
Duty Station: Head Quarters
Terms of Appointment: Contract (Renewable subject to satisfactory performance)

Main purpose:
Design, develop, and coordinate maintenance and repair of marine machinery and related equipment including propulsion machines and power supply systems for installation on a research vessel. In addition, coordinate activities with regulatory bodies in order to ensure repairs and alterations are at minimum cost and consistent with safety regulations and standards.

Qualification and experience

1. Honors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or Automotive Engineering
2. Must have a certificate for a Master or Chief Officer with Class 3 for Deck Officer on watch.
3. Must have certificates in the following: Medical care, Advanced fire fighting, Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems (GMDSS), Personal Safety, and Social Responsibility (PSSR)
4. Must be proficient in survival rescue boats, fire fighting; ISPS Ship Security Officer, and Personal Survival Techniques.
5. Six (6) years work in a marine engineering environment
6. Valid license
