UGAFODE Microfinance Limited (MDI) is a registered financial institution in Uganda and is adherent to the Central Bank’s regulations and guidelines and was founded in 1994 to provide quality microfinance services.
Job Summary: The Head of Finance is responsible for financial planning, management and control, encompassing statutory, regulatory and financial reporting. Strengthening the control environment to ensure the integrity of all financial information, managing and planning for the institution’s tax exposure from a compliance and risk perspective
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategy: Leads the process of strategy formulation by planning, forecasting and preparing annual budgets and the strategic business plan in line with the CEO and Board/agreed direction for the company.
- Financial Reporting: Provides timely and accurate financial information including Financial Reporting to all stakeholders including the Board & regulatory bodies in accordance with regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Operations: Initiates, formulates and implements accounting policies and procedures ensuring that all accounting records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles(GAAP), IFRS, MDI ACT, MDI Regulations and company policies and procedures.
- Funding and Investment Analysis: Conducts capital planning strategies and manages the effective allocation of capital by controlling the finances of the institution and suggesting the best sources of funds as well as providing guidance on investment of excess liquidity and surplus funds in profitable and safe ventures among others. Also ensures UGAFODE’s operations are conducted in conformity to capital requirements as stipulated in the MDI Act, 2003 as well the capital adequacy benchmarks required by Bank of Uganda.
- Treasury Management: Provides input to Treasury Investment appraisals and analysis against return while ensuring adequate liquidity for loan disbursements and operational expenses throughout the company’s network.
- Risk Management: Manages all risk associated with financial data integrity, compliance with tax authority and financial institutions regulation and insurance of company assets so as to protect the institution from related breaches.
- Support to SMT: Offers guidance to the management team to ensure delivery of the operational business plans including input to high level business development plans and capital expenditure requirements to support growth across the institution.
- Approval of all payments: Co-signatory on all payments to and against the institution in line with UGAFODE internal and external requirements as well as regulatory and best practices in management accounting.
- Team Leadership: Takes full responsibility for performance management of all direct reports, focusing on all aspects of sound people management e.g. Recruitment, Development, Performance Management, Career path planning, On-the-job training, coaching & mentoring and employee engagement etc.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold at least Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce
- Qualified in professional accounting qualification e.g. ACCA. CPA is a MUST.
- Master in Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage
- At least 5 years’ experience in finance and preferably 2 years in finance at management level of an MDI/MDI or Bank
- Strong team leader with good communication, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal systems
- Ability to motivate, supervise and develop others.
- Problem solver with strong analytical and numeracy skills
- Proactive self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to operate at strategic level in addition to delivering at an operational level
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS, Uganda tax legislation and MDI Act
- Good computer literacy with excellent use of MS Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and experience in use of accounting software and management information skills
