Travel Requirement: Regular field travel is required

Background
War Child Canada works globally to accelerate peace and disrupt cycles of violence by empowering local communities to foster resilience, self-reliance, and self-determination. Programs in Uganda focus on education, livelihoods, and legal protection services, particularly for refugees and vulnerable groups. Key initiatives include Accelerated Education Programs (BRIDGE) and Geared for Success, which improve education and protection services while emphasizing gender inclusion and youth empowerment.

Position Summary
The Country Director will provide overall leadership and strategic direction to War Child Canada’s Uganda program. The role involves oversight of operations, fundraising, financial management, and team development while ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Program Management (30%)
• Drive strategic direction, growth, and expansion of War Child Canada’s Uganda program.
• Oversee implementation of the Country Strategic Plan, ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation.
• Develop annual work plans and budgets in collaboration with HQ.
• Foster a high-performing team culture to deliver impactful, community-driven results.
Fundraising and Donor Engagement (30%)
• Build relationships with institutional donors, international partners, and local stakeholders.
• Design and develop compelling project proposals in collaboration with HQ.
• Identify new funding opportunities and innovative partnerships to support program sustainability.
External Representation (10%)
• Represent War Child Canada in national forums, engaging with governments, donors, and NGOs.
• Build partnerships with local and international organizations to enhance program visibility.
Financial and Resource Management (10%)
• Ensure effective management of the country’s budget, including accurate financial forecasting.
• Oversee compliance with financial policies and implement robust financial controls.
Human Resources and Team Development (10%)

• Provide strategic oversight of staff, promoting collaboration and inclusivity.
• Oversee recruitment processes and implement effective HR policies.

• Foster professional development for national and international staff.
Risk and Incident Management (10%)
• Develop and update risk management plans, prioritizing staff safety and safeguarding.
• Coordinate with local authorities and partners to address potential risks.
• Promote a secure working environment through staff training on risk management and safeguarding policies.

Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field.
Experience
• Minimum of 10 years in senior management roles, with 4 years in a country leadership position in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary teams in resource-constrained environments.
• Experience in fundraising and securing large-scale project funding.
• Strong background in program design, implementation, and management in education, child protection, and livelihoods sectors.
• Prior experience in Uganda is highly desirable.

Compensation & Benefits
