JOB DETAILS:

Job Purpose:
To support microbiology testing in the laboratories within the microbiology testing network in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

Key Functions:
• Assist in SOP development and management to include ensuring annual reviews, archiving, maintaining up-to-date lists and schedules of review, and ensuring that all appropriate personnel have read and signed off on SOPs.
• Conduct microbiological testing, including but not limited to bacterial cultures, identification, and antibiotic susceptibility testing.

• sample collection, processing, and preparation for microbiological analysis, ensuring adherence to established protocols.
• Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of microbiology test results.

• Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of microbiology laboratory equipment, Record and maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including test results, equipment logs, and quality control documentation.

• Adhere to relevant safety and infection control protocols, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

• Collaborate with other laboratory technologists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to facilitate interdisciplinary coordination.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior laboratory staff, interns, and other healthcare personnel on microbiology testing procedures.
• Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports on microbiology test results to contribute to public health surveillance efforts.

Qualifications, Competencies and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field.

• Registration with the relevant licensing board or council.

• Strong knowledge of laboratory safety and quality control procedures.
• Familiarity with national and international laboratory quality standards and regulations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented with excellent record-keeping abilities.
• Knowledge of laboratory information systems and data management.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration and teamwork,
