Job Title: Enrolled Nurses (Ophthalmic Theatre Nurses) (03)
Reports to: Eye Nurse Manager
Location: Kampala
Job summary: To provide quality nursing care and support to ophthalmology clients throughout their surgical experience including pre, intra and postoperative care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure instruments for procedures are available and sterile.
- Scrubbing and assisting in various Ophthalmic procedures
- Administering local anaesthesia, keeping it in safe custody, and documenting in the patient casebooks.
- Assisting with procedures such as tests for glaucoma, cataracts, retinal scans etc.
- Preparing patients for examinations by explaining procedures and providing instructions on how to behave during the examination.
- Observing patients during examinations to ensure they follow instructions and are in good health.
- Recording patient information including medical history, diagnosis, treatment plan, and progress.
- Performing basic nursing tasks such as administering eye drops, giving eye exams, and cleaning equipment.
- Documentation of key Issues in Theatre.
- Educating patients, relatives and cleaners on health issues, such as cleanliness, diet and general hygiene.
- Perform any other duties as assigned from time to time by the relevant authority.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Certificate in Nursing from a recognised Institution
- Certificate in Ophthalmic Theatre Nursing is a must
- Registration with Uganda Nurses’ and Midwives’ Council
- Minimum of 1 year’s work experience in a similar setting
- Excellent customer care skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
