  • Duration: Six months
  • Duty station: Kampala, Uganda
  • Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD$500 per month. All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.
  • Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
  • Working Hours: Interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.
  • Learning Outcomes: Before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

The objective of the internship is to give you a first-hand experience of the day-to-day working at GGGI. The Internship Program is a project-oriented learning opportunity for graduate students to gain experience through research assignments based on GGGI’s current operational needs. GGGI welcomes motivated, open-minded, and self-directed individuals to apply. You will be given an opportunity to work directly with outstanding and inspiring Green Growth professionals, participate in workshops and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as innovative rethinking on sustainable green growth. Interns will be selected based on merit and cannot be children or siblings of current GGGI staff members.

CAN YOU BE A GGGI INTERN?
  • You have completed master’s degree in investment, economics, Agribusiness, and related fields.
  • You are committed and available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the contracted period in the GGGI office or any other mutually agreed upon location within Kampala
  • You have excellent command of English.
CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a talented individual to work with us in the Green Industrialization thematic area to assist the Uganda Office team especially with facilitations, research, and program development. The intern will be working directly with the Industrial Development Officer for Greening Uganda’s Urbanization and Industrialization project.

The assignment will include but not limited to the following:

  • Compile data from relevant stakeholders in and around Soroti Industrial Park and Entebbe freezone to identify the value proposition of these locations to the stakeholders.
  • Compile data for Priority Sector value chain interdependencies for Soroti Industrial Park and Entebbe Freezone.
  • Work on RECP readiness score card for Soroti Industrial Park and Entebbe Freezone.
  • Develop Export destinations’ compliance checklist and training gap assessment for top 20 Uganda exports through Entebbe Freezone.
  • Generate potential leads for potential investors and customers of Entebbe freezone and Soroti  Industrial park from local, regional and international companies.
  • Compile data from relevant projects around East Africa, Africa and top exporting and importing countries for Uganda to generate leads for potential collaboration with Entebbe and Soroti.
  • Develop a list of local, regional, or international competitors for Entebbe Freezone and Soroti Industrial Park highlighting their unique selling points.
  • Project Analysis – Analysis of relevant private sector, government- and ODA-funded programs/projects around industrialization and their geographic distributions in GGGI Africa member countries and beyond.
  • Support the Uganda team during relevant events, meetings, and workshops.
  • Support project design, development, and implementation where relevant.
  • Provide other support when requested.
QUALIFICATION
  • Master’s degree in the past 12 months, in economics, agribusiness, investment, or another relevant field
  • Proven, strong academic and research track record
  • Knowledge and understanding of green industry development issues.
  • Experience in gathering, analyzing, and reporting data.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented with good organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and active usage of various social media is an advantage
  • Proven analytical and report writing skills are advantageous.
