General Background:
Refugee registration in Uganda is carried out by the government through the Department of Refugees (DOR), in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) with support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
As of end of December 2023, the active registered population of refugees and asylum-seekers in Uganda was 1,615,162 individuals spread across 14 rural and urban locations in Uganda. A little over 57% of the population originates from South Sudan, 32% from DR Congo and 3% from somalia. The remaining 8% is made up of 30 other minority nationality groups.
Together, OPM and UNHCR seek to enhance efficiency in data collection oversight and the management of operational data, including ensuring that the quality of data on refugees and asylum-seekers is fit for purpose…
