St. Francis Hospital Nyenga has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1932 by the Servant of God, Mother Mary Kevin Kearney, an Irish woman with a profound commitment to healthcare and compassion. Initially founded as a Faith-Based and Private Not-for-Profit (PNFP) Health Facility dedicated to serving Persons Affected by Leprosy (PALs), the hospital quickly expanded its services in response to the growing healthcare needs of the surrounding community. In 1936, it was officially gazetted as a general hospital to accommodate the increasing demand for comprehensive medical care.
