Senior Midwife (Diploma Level) job at Nurture Africa

JOB DETAILS:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:
• Deliver comprehensive midwifery care to expectant mothers, covering prenatal, delivery, and postnatal stages.
• Monitor maternal and fetal health during labor and childbirth, ensuring timely interventions.
• Manage obstetric emergencies and initiate necessary procedures to safeguard mother and child.
• Provide family planning services and counseling to patients.
• Conduct cervical cancer screenings and educate patients on preventive health measures.
• Administer immunizations and ensure adherence to vaccination protocols.
• Assist in receiving and caring for babies in the theater, performing neonatal resuscitation when needed.
2. Supervision and Training:
• Mentor and guide junior midwives and nursing staff to uphold high standards of care.
• Ensure adherence to maternity protocols and clinical guidelines.
3. Collaboration:
• Work closely with doctors, clinical officers, obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver excellent maternal and newborn care.
• Educate and counsel families about postnatal care, breastfeeding, and family planning.
4. Administrative Duties:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of maternity center policies.
• Monitor inventory and ensure availability of essential equipment and supplies.
5. Quality Improvement:
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations within the maternity ward.
• Identify and implement quality improvement initiatives.
6. Personal Development:
• Commit to continuous professional growth through learning and unlearning.

Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Requirements:
• Diploma in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years in a busy maternity center.
Licensure:
• Must possess a valid medical or nursing board license.
Skills:
• Strong clinical and decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in neonatal resuscitation and managing critical situations.
• Knowledge of family planning, immunization protocols, and cervical cancer screening.
• Experience with EMTCT (Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission) is an added advantage.

Work Environment:
• Fast-paced maternity center with a high patient volume.
• Flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Work Hours: 8

Experience in Months: 24

Level of Education: Associate Degree
