What we are looking for
The purpose of the Protection from Violence Assistant position is to provide technical support in case management.

What you will do
Generic responsibilities
• Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
• Assist a range of support with the implementation of the Protection from Violence portfolio according to plan of action.
• Implements independently procedures and activities within own function or core competency as delegated.
• Responsible for the organization and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, to be most effective in supporting the team.
• Use initiative in day-to-day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work.
• Prepare and develop status reports as required by line management.
• Ensure proper filing of documents for all cases assisted.
• Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.

Specific responsibilities
• Identify and respond to cases in a safe and dignified matter for effective and timely response including cases during the Mobile Protection desks.
• Ensure timely referral of cases based on the identified needs to other stakeholders for appropriate response and functionality of the referral system.
• Support qualitative data collection, assessments, key informant interviews and focus group discussions to identify community needs and protection from violence service gaps.
• Ensure regular field and home visits are carried out in line with Case management processes and PFV SOPs.
• Maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers.
• Ensure cases identified through feedback and referral response mechanism is addressed in timely and response matter.
• Support the PfV trends to ensure quality analysis for appropriate planning, response and advocacy.
• Assist the team in identifying and responding to emergency cases, especially internal referrals.
• Support in the development of concept notes and PFV activities to enhance timely implementation.

• Participate in any other related activity in coordination with the Line Manager.
• Participate in mapping exercises and assessments aimed at identifying the locations and needs of vulnerable populations in Urban and the surrounding neighbourhoods, by using participatory data collection tools and methodologies.
• Support the maintenance of protection from violence case management database with PfV Officers.
• Ensure timely submission of reports (Highlights) on PFV activities to the line management for analysis development.
• Assist in identification of changes and/or trends related to the violence in his/her area of intervention.
• Collect and transmit regularly to the Protection from Violence Officer documents and activity reports from the villages under his/her responsibility.

What you will bring
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:
Qualifications, Skills, Competencies and Experience:
• University degree in law, social studies and Development studies.
• Minimum of 2 years’ work experience with NGO, legal or international organization in the area of protection or human rights
• Experience from working as a Protection or Legal Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context.
• Experience from working as an Assistant in a humanitarian/recovery context.
• Knowledge and experience within a relevant administration, craft or technical field and ideally a relevant vocational qualification.
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Experience with case management (general protection case management preferred, GBV or CP acceptable).
• Experience with psychosocial support, PFA, preferred.
• Inclusive and Accountable.
• Handling insecure environments
• Planning and delivering results.
• Empowering and building trust
• Knowledge of the context in Uganda
• Knowledge of the English and local language
• Experience working with government, local authorities, humanitarian actors, host community and displaced populations (IDPs, returnees and Refugees)
