Project Coordinator – Youth Mental Health Project job at SOS Children’s Villages Uganda

JOB DETAILS:
Role Overview
The Project Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the Youth Mental Health Project, ensuring efficient implementation, compliance, and delivery of project goals. The Coordinator will supervise project staff and volunteers, manage budgets, and ensure alignment with SOS Uganda and donor requirements. A critical part of the role involves working closely with MHU staff, promoting youth-led initiatives, and driving the project’s advocacy agenda.

Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation and Management
• Oversee day-to-day implementation of project activities, ensuring alignment with the program strategy and annual plans.
• Monitor progress and provide supervision to the project team, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals.

• Lead the review of budgets versus actual expenditures and provide accurate feedback to the finance team.
• Ensure compliance with SOS Uganda, donor, and national procurement and logistics guidelines.

• Coordinate training sessions for Champions, Mentor Champions, and schoolteachers, including the review of training curricula.

• Facilitate in-country visits from local and international stakeholders.
• Ensure all activities comply with organizational and donor requirements.
2. Monitoring and Evaluation
• Collaborate with the M&E Officer to develop a comprehensive M&E framework and tools.
• Monitor project progress against established indicators and provide feedback for adaptive management.
• Support baseline surveys, evaluations, and other data collection exercises to assess project outcomes.
• Ensure timely submission of accurate project reports and proper documentation of all project-related data.
• Conduct regular team meetings to assess progress, resolve issues, and find solutions to implementation challenges.
3. Human Resource Management and Development
• Supervise and mentor project staff, fostering a supportive work environment and promoting team collaboration.
• Ensure the performance management cycle is conducted for all direct reports, providing constructive feedback and conducting performance reviews.
• Manage personnel processes, including orientation, leave management, and exit management.
• Work with SOS management to implement personnel policies, including coaching, disciplinary measures, and team development.
4. Communication, Coordination, and Representation
• Represent the project in engagements with government authorities, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders.

• Advocate for the inclusion of the project’s agenda in national mental health platforms.
• Ensure compliance with ethical standards in the handling and sharing of project data.
• Prepare and share project reports and updates with stakeholders.
• Ensure maximum visibility of SOS Uganda and its partners in accordance with project commitments.

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Community Psychology, or related humanities.
• Postgraduate qualification or Master’s degree in a related field is an added advantage.
Experience:
• At least 5 years of  project management experience in mental health, community development, or social services.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, meet deadlines, and deliver projects on time and within scope.
• Strong experience in managing donor-funded projects, partnerships, and youth-led initiatives.
Skills and Competencies:
• Knowledge of mental health issues in Uganda and related legal frameworks.
• Expertise in monitoring and evaluation, report writing, and data management.
• Experience facilitating workshops, managing partnerships, and addressing wellbeing concerns.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet use.
• Strong problem-solving skills, empathy, integrity, and ability to multitask.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
