Business Development Manager job at AltGen Africa

Are you who we’re looking for?
Our client, is a well-established energy efficiency company operating in Uganda and Rwanda. Passionate about energy provision regardless of social-economic status, decarbonisation, and climate finance in emerging markets, they are looking for a Business Development Manager who is creative, flexible, and can think on their feet.
You’ll need 4+ years of experience within the Ugandan or East African energy market and an embedded understanding of finance, negotiation, and proposals & contracts within this market. Additionally, the successful candidate should have an extensive Ugandan network, and a proven track record working in a fast-paced B2B sales environment.
In addition to a fantastic company culture, this role requires regional travel and thus, you will have use of a company car. Finally, you’ll be eligible for a quarterly bonus and medical aid will be provided.

Education Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field

Experience Requirements
• 4+ years of experience in the energy or energy efficiency industry in East Africa, preferably Uganda
• Well-established network of Ugandan stakeholders in the energy market

Responsibilities
• Drive the expansion of the Ugandan sales pipeline
• Track, manage, and engage key stakeholders at local and regional levels across various functions such as technical, procurement, financial, and executive within client organisations
• Oversee and implement coordination efforts with a diverse range of co-development partners to initiate, develop, and finalise projects
• Lead and manage commercial negotiations, ensuring effective coordination with internal technical and investment teams to align on inputs
• Design and deliver persuasive sales presentations and proposals to prospective clients, collaborating closely with the Investment team to refine proposal content

• Conduct comprehensive due diligence for potential projects and clients, gathering necessary client information and facilitating internal team support
• Monitor and report on sales performance, offering insights and recommendations for strategic improvements
• Keep abreast of industry advancements and emerging trends in renewable energy to inform strategic decision-making
