Position: Gender and Youth Social inclusion (GYSI) officers (3)
Reports to: Gender and Youth social inclusion (GYSI) Coordinator
Supervises: Community structures (DBTs, Mentors, Peer Educators/facilitators, Champions)
Duty Station: Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono
Role Summary
Gender and Youth Social inclusion (GYSI) officer(s) will support target district program-level implementation targeting the urban poor population. S/he will ensure active engagement of vulnerable youth, and women households in community activities. S/he will enhance access to and use of health services and ensure waste and pollution reduction at the community level. The GYSI officers will support training, linkages and reporting of all the community structures in the gender and youth social inclusion platform. The GYSI officers will provide district technical leadership in integrating youth, and gender across IRs to enhance access to and use of health services, ensure engagement and participation of youth and vulnerable populations, promote gender inclusivity and ensure waste and pollution reduction. He/she will oversee the implementation of integrated youth and gender inclusive programs by actors and community structures involved in delivery of health services.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee, support and coordinate district technical assistance on MNCAH and Nutrition and integration in health service delivery.
- Develop strategies to engage communities and key partners and stakeholders in implementing gender and youth social inclusive health interventions.
- Support in development of annual and quarterly work plans and budgets for the gender and youth social inclusive
- Coordinate with other Urban Health Actvity technical leads to ensure integration in service delivery and harmonized work plan implementation.
- Support, coordinate and ensure health promotion activities and MCHN and nutrition interventions at healthcare facilities and community-level among marginalized groups particularly women and youth groups.
- Support supervise community structures to profile, map and support urban poor to access project activities at the healthcare facility and surrounding communities
- Ensures meaningful engagement with women and youth led organizations to promote equity in delivery of health services in the communities.
- Develop quarterly and annual reports for gender and youth platform and support integration of these into project quarterly and annual reports.
- Plan gender transformative dialogues and follow ups activities with cultural, religious and social influencers in the KMA.
- Strengthen and link community youth and women groups to eco-friendly, health-enhancing businesses and micro enterprises.
- Work with other technical leads to develop inclusive eco-friendly and health-enhancing businesses.
- Work with project staff, local leaders and community structures to promote and support waste segregation at household level and linkage to waste offtakes.
- Ensure capacity development for health program team and community structures to reduce bottlenecks in activity integration and inclusive health service delivery.
- Work with project staff, local leaders and community structures to promote urban waste management including solid waste management, plastic management and promotion of recycling.
- Provide guidance to the community structures to form, maintain and sustain peer groups for marginalized groups, particularly women and youth groups at facility and community level
- Support districts to integrate planning and implementation of gender and youth social inclusive health programs.
Required Qualifications
- Advance diploma and/ or Degree in Public/Community Health, Social work and social administration, Adult and community education, and demonstrated equivalent through experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience designing, managing and implementing programs that seek to increase gender equality, empower women and girls, support youth programming and strengthen MNCAH and Nutrition service delivery
- Experience mentoring community structures particularly women and youth to engage in public speaking or leadership roles.
- Ability to mentor and develop capacity of community structures on youth- and gender-based approaches within health and family planning programs.
- A good knowledge of gender and community development approaches
- Familiarity with some USAID regulations and policies or willingness to complete online learning
- Good knowledge of monitoring and evaluation approaches.
- Excellent group facilitation, multi-stakeholder consultation, and strategic planning skills.
- Strong writing skills, both for technical and program reports.
- Experience working with civil society organizations, governments, donors, and international organizations.
- Fluent in written English and oral communication.
