2 Craftsmen-Carpentry job at Makerere University

Job Purpose

Model structures to specifications, carry out repairs and fabricate fixtures where required to meet university needs

Key, Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assemble sturdy and well-constructed floorboards, skirting boards, window frames, doors, door linings, staircases, fitted furniture, cabinetry and shelving;
  2. Incorporate fixtures like door handles and locks, cabinet handles, stairway railing and other fixtures into design and implementation;
  3. Fabricate, remodel and repair structures and frameworks;
  4. Read and interpret work requests from blueprints, diagrams, verbal and written instructions;
  5. Make minor repairs to office furniture such as desks, cabinets, bookcases and replace damaged wood in hardwood floors and outdoor decks;
  6. Install drywall, windows and moulding, build footings, rafters and doorways and lay floors, decks and pouches;
  7. Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level with designers and plumbers on the construction site;
  8. Measure building materials and spaces for installation;
  9. Place orders for required carpentry materials;
  10. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery from a recognized institution;

Experience

Must have at least three (3) years’ experience as a Carpenter

Skills/Competences

Team player;

  1. Must be physically and mentally strong;

        iii.     Should be able to work over time if required;

  1. Meticulous, precise, artistic, careful and have craftsmanship;
  2. Innovative
  3. Some painting skills will be an added advantage
