World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in 43 districts and have 48 Area Programmes implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & resilience, education and child protection. World Vision (WV) is committed to the protection of children and adult beneficiaries from exploitation and abuse and will not employ people whose background is not suitable for working with these beneficiaries. Due to expansion in scope of our programmes, we are now seeking for a qualified and passionate individual willing to share in our vision and join the team in the following role.

Position:         Health Specialist

Report to:       Technical Programme Lead-Health and Nutrition

Location:        Kampala – National Office

Purpose of the position:

The Health Specialist will support the Technical Program Lead- Health & Nutrition to provide overall strategic leadership in the Health & Nutrition sector, guiding relevant programming in both development and refugee contexts across Uganda. The jobholder will contribute to World Vision’s role as a thought leader, and support continuous improvement in Health & Nutrition programming through their technical expertise, facilitation of learning and innovation.

Key Outputs/Responsibilities.

Programme Design, Implementation Quality Assurance & Reporting:

  • Support ongoing design processes related to all Health & Nutrition programmes and projects, including strategy alignment and review processes.
  • Monitor programme and project quality at output, outcome and impact levels, facilitate evidence-based organizational learning processes and promote innovation for continuous improvement in programming impact.
  • Support relevant reporting functions, particularly at output, outcome and impact level, notably including monthly and bi-annual Child Well-being Report.
  • Technical guidance and support to field programme and project implementation teams.
  • Conduct routine field support supervision visits to area programs and grants

Strengthen Resource Development, External Engagement, Advocacy & Partnerships

  • Support engagement with key stakeholders for influence, learning and resource development. This shall include, together with the Technical Program Lead Health & Nutrition:
  • Represent WVU in key Technical working groups as guided.
  • Engage and build relationships with key partners and government counterparts
  • Engage with donor agencies and other stakeholders, from time to time, as required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Grant Acquisition Business Plan through technical input to grant proposals.
  • Support national and subnational level advocacy efforts.
  • Work in close collaboration with Advocacy Department to advocate for policy change with national-level government stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and guide advocacy campaigns, as appropriate.
  • Evidence generation for advocacy.

Establish strong technical staff leadership & development for health TP.

  • Technical capacity building of project staff, partner staff and other key stakeholders, as required.
  • Annual Health and Nutrition sector capacity development plan developed.
  • Participate actively in the TP meetings with POs, TPOs and health grants managers.
  • Support recruitment and orientation of staff project designs and strategy.
  • Document TP innovations and support scale up.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in field-based programme management roles in RMNCAH, Nutrition, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
  • Degree in medicine, Nursing, midwifery, human nutrition & Dietetics, public health (post-graduate degree is preferred). Must be registered with a professional body e.g. Uganda medical association, Allied health professional’s council, and The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • Academic and/or direct programming experience in RMNCAH and additional expertise in at least one of the following areas; Nutrition, HIV/AIDS, communicable diseases (including malaria and water-borne diseases). Good understanding of WASH and  programming for public health emergencies e.g. Ebola, COVID 19, Marburg Virus Disease  is an advantage.
