Position: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Officer (1)
Reports To: Technical Advisor HIV Prevention
Duty station: Busia District.
Job Summary: Diagnose, treat, and prevent mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders among People living with, affected and at high risk of HIV infection. Provide screening for mental health. illness and offer appropriate counselling.
Roles and responsibilities
1. Support facilities and communities to integrate Mental health assessment and management.
2. Popularize a web-based depression self-assessment tool (avid18) among clients and health workers.
3. Provide technical assistance to project teams and the district health workers/Community structures to strengthen mental health integration into HIV programming.
4. She/he will offer tele-health counselling to clients outside the area of placement to reach more in need.
5. Coordinate and conduct periodic stakeholder/DIC HIV prevention meetings aimed at promoting collaboration, learning and adaptation (CLA) among stakeholders on mental health integration.
6. S/he will support facilities and communities to assess mental health among the clients and get appropriate support.
7. Take lead on mentorship and implementation of The Akena’s Visual Depression Inventory AVIDI-18) both audio/video versions for KPs, PLHIVs at DIC and facilities.
8. Analyze the filled forms and offer appropriate support.
Qualifications, job requirements and Competencies
• A diploma in Psychiatric medicine, Psychiatric Nursing or Clinical Psychology.
• Training in public health, or related field will be of added advantage.
• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience in health settings providing psychosocial support services.
• Experience of working with MOH, District and Community Health structures in HIV.
• Excellent communication skills to manage a wide range of relationships with colleagues, and patients and their families.
• Emotional resilience, a calm temperament, and the ability to work well under pressure.
• Teamwork and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary teams.
• Problem-solving and diagnostic skills
• Non-Judgmental of gender orientation.
