Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

The Senior Manager, MoMo Pay is responsible for driving the development of MTN’s Mobile payment strategy and successful delivery of digital payment solutions through new products, solutions and strategy to increase MTN Mobile Money merchants ecosystem and increase payment volumes and revenues.

Main Job Functions:

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Lead creation of sub-divisional strategy in line with overarching divisional goals with emphasis on client experience (internal and external)
  • Ensure effective implementation of sub-divisional strategy by means of providing direction, structure, business plans and support
  • Develop and implement:
  • A loyalty solution and scheme to support the growth of mobile payment
  • A strategy to growth mobile payment
  • Mobile payment solutions and products for corporate and governments
  • Development a strategy for MTN to capture B2B payment sue cases
  • An overall strategy to growth merchant ecosystem and mobile payment usages
  • Ensure MTN covers the maximum number of payment use cases
  • Ensure MTN has a strategy for introducing its payment ecosystem onto open loop use cases
  • Ensure MTN is equipped to deliver the best user experience and value to every key stakeholder of the payment ecosystem
  • Ensure MTN has solutions and operational framework to growth both digital and physical merchant ecosystem

Governance

Adhoc, operational and tactical meeting

  • Set up / participate in adhoc and operational meetings
  • Participate and provide input into tactical meetings
  • Report at process and functional level

Escalations

  • Manage and resolve escalations that have impact on critical path of service delivery
  • Escalate issues that will result in significant time, scope, employee/customer or cost impacts if not resolved

Operational

  • Set up and manage project
  • Develop an operational playbook for OpCos to drive mobile payment and provide strategic guidance to OpCocs
  • Ensure OpCos are equipped to drive mobile payment
  • Support and implement new product with OPCOs
  • Handle capacity building and best practices sharing to improve execution at the OpCo level
  • Support OpCos to develop and maintain the best value proposition to both consumers and merchant
  • Support OpCos to implement new products and services
  • Support OpCos to develop and implement Go to market strategies to drive payment
  • Review and identify key risks, issues, and dependencies and set mitigation actions
  • Manage budgets
  • Sign off / make decisions regarding operational changes

Tactical

  • Provide input into the review of all projects initiated
  • Review key risks, issues, and dependencies and set mitigation actions
  • Manage budget
  • Provide input and tactical activities to drive merchant payment volumes and growth merchant payment ecosystem

Performance

  • Review performance against agreed KPIs and compliance to SLAs
  • Create and monitor plan for continuous improvement
  • Review performance of teams

Reporting

  • Report on a monthly basis to management relating to progress made within the sub-division and in accordance with the measurement metrics set by the organisation
  • Report on an ad hoc basis on specific projects as and when necessary

Budgets  

  • Manage sub-divisional budgets in line with business objectives
  • Manage project or initiative budgets in line with business objectives

Operational Delivery

  • Lead negotiations, complex decision-making process and closing deals with merchants and the sale of additional services to them
  • Leverage on analytics, mobile data and mobile advertising to develop fit for purpose payment solutions
  • Ensure that MTN becomes the leader in merchant payments in key opcos and facilitate the launch of contactless, switch other issuers and loyalty
  • Ensure that appropriate processes and models are in place to drive traction and reduction of too many players in the value chain
  • Assist the Opcos to tap into the payment opportunities through partners and relevant channels to position MTN as a key player
  • Increase Mobile Money check out digital presence and increase the volume of users
  • Provide accurate sales forecasts and reports in a timely and consistent manner
  • Work closely with the other teams within Mobile Financial Services and support functions to optimize the revenue generation opportunity and demonstrate strong ROI
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of high-quality relationships with all target customers
  • Drive the development and implementation of short term and long-term sales plans for the Opcos
  • Ensure communication of timely needs and opportunities to management and support units as required
  • Oversee and lead partners due diligence
  • Oversee the change in the FS payments licensing model where there is opportunity for MTN to take more control
  • Analyse organizational dynamics at the prospective customer and develop the most effective products and solutions
  • Support the Enterprise Business unit to approach global FMCGs to offer 360 payment solution and use of Big Data
  • Develop and maintain strong and relevant value proposition for consumer, merchant and corporates

Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)

Education:

  • A degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Administration or any related business field.
  • Relevant post graduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • Fluent in English and language of country preferable.

Experience:

  • 6 years relevant experience in Financial Services or relevant sector
  • relevant experience in managing Mobile Payments
  • Proven track record of managing and execution of full life-cycle mobile payments projects
  • Experience in merchant acquisition, loyalty and online payment gateway
  • Good understanding of mobile payments business process and technology
  • Sales and Delivery experience
  • Understanding of emerging markets
