Reports to: Engineering & Planning Manager
Department: Maintenance and Engineering
Job Summary:
He/She will ensure that the aircraft structures are maintained to standard as per requirements of the maintenance programme and manufacturer requirements. The successful candidate will be in charge of monitoring the operation, maintenance in regard to aircraft structures, modification & repairs, continuous improvement and ensuring the highest level of safety in operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Preliminary structure defect evaluation and assessments on the fleet operated by Uganda Airlines.
- Managing in-house fleet modifications, in liaison with Approved design organizations, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and Original Equipment Manufacturers.
- Liaison with Aircraft and equipment manufacturers, Regulatory Authorities and Sub-contracted Aircraft Maintenance Organizations on technical, logistics and support matters relating to Cabin, aircraft systems and aircraft structures.
- Development and review of structural inspection programs and Corrosion control inspection requirements.
- Directing, supervising, monitoring, and evaluating systems & structural work performed by Maintenance staff to ensure compliance with approved data, regulatory requirements and Company policies and procedures.
- Administration of the Dent and Buckle charts on each Aircraft. Keep track of all identified damages and related additional maintenance requirements if any.
- Lead internal campaigns to incorporate digital solutions for damage identification, tracking and repair mapping such as 3D-repairs (E-tech repairs).
- Coordinate all structural projects including repairs, modifications, required tooling, equipment and liaison with contracted maintenance providers for structural work.
- Working with Safety, Flight Operations, Cargo and Ground operations to submit reports as applicable to report aircraft ground damages to IATA for inclusion in the Incident Data Exchange (IDX).
- Issuing periodic engineering bulletins to staff as a reminder for costs relating to structural damages: aircraft downtimes, costs, flight cancellations, etc.
- Process insurance claims resulting from structural damages: working with Finance to prepare all records required.
- Implement the internal reporting policy: Coordination between Line, base maintenance, MCC, OCC and Engineering to effectively communicate any damages.
- Communication/reporting of structural damages to the Aircraft manufacturers as required by the Structural repair manual and UCAA regulations.
- Liaise with the manufacturer concerning structural repairs outside the Structural Repair Manual, updating structural files in the Maintenance Information Software database.
- Review of AD’s, SB’s, and other instructions from the manufacturer and relevant regulatory authorities for their application on the company’s fleet.
- Other work as assigned by the Manager Engineering and Planning
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
- An honour’s Bachelor of Science degree from a recognized university majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering (Aeronautics).
- An equivalent qualification from a recognized aviation maintenance training school.
- Knowledge and experience on a jet aircraft will be an added advantage.
- Equivalent working experience of at least 3 years in Aircraft engineering and maintenance organization.
- Advanced Skills in computer applications, MS Word, PowerPoint, Rendering Software will be an added advantage.
- Evidence of high levels of analytical skills will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of standard practices, procedures in aircraft Engineering and Maintenance.
