Job Summary:
The role of the Treasury and Risk Management Division/Unit is the management and reporting of treasury risk and other Company risk and the oversight of treasury activities that enable the Company to make informed and profitable investment and borrowing decisions, thereby preserving capital, optimizing profitability and maintaining a strong credit rating. The Division is also charged with the implementation of the provisions of the Risk Management Manual.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Identify, measure, monitor, and mitigate market and credit risks in the Company’s Treasury operations.
- Ensure the timely reporting of the Treasury Department’s borrowing and investment activities.
- Build an efficient control framework to ensure adherence to the Company’s policies, Assets and Liabilities Management (ALM) guidelines, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Provide efficient information systems and analytical support tools to improve the decision-making process.
- Maintain stewardship for financial assets and debt, including overall leadership of the Company’s cash management, debt management, investment management functions, and affiliated entities.
- Ensure the maintenance of corporate liquidity and financial stability, including meeting short and long-term funding needs.
- Develop and manage strategies, operations, policies, and budgets relating to treasury activities.
- Direct development and revision of financial policies for capital structure, working capital, treasury operations, foreign exchange interest rate risk management, and insurance risk management.
- Direct capital markets, borrowing, investing of excess funds, foreign exchange, treasury operations, financial risk management and corporate finance initiatives.
- Supervise the maintenance of internal controls designed to safeguard corporate assets and the integrity of its fiscal systems.
- Understand how regulatory reform will impact the business and help ensure the company is best positioned to respond.
- Manage banking and investment banking relationships.
- Oversee daily cash and debt management, cash flow forecasting, and interest risk management.
- Establish fixed income investment positions,
- Manage financial risk, identify cost-saving and profit maximizing opportunities related to treasury operations.
- Analyze and recommend potential alternative financing structures and explains/shows their impact on EPS, balance sheet, tax effects, and financial ratios.
- Assess foreign exchange risk and implement hedge programs and strategies.
- Monitor and prepare loan covenant compliance, Support financing negotiations, and formulate capital strategy.
- Review monthly interest expenses, journal entries and accruals related to treasury activities.
- Understand and manage appropriate procedures and processes around month-end and quarter-close activity.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Management, or Finance required
- MBA or an advanced degree in business, management, or finance is an added advantage
- Full CPA / ACCA qualification.
- Strong treasury background.
- Familiarity with IFRS, treasury workstation, and technology experience.
- Knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, powerpoint, Word.
- Knowledge of appropriate accounting and financial software packages e.g. SUN, SAP, Oracle is an added advantage.
- 5-8 years of relevant treasury or corporate finance experience with emphasis in budgeting, forecasting and cash flow analysis.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Good communication skills.
- Experience in working with diverse teams.
