Position: Education Project Officer (National Position)

Reports to: Education Project Coordinator

Supervision of: Teachers

Duty station:  Isingiro Field Office

Generic Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate the Education project activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
  2. Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
  3. Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
  4. Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
  5. Coordinate with relevant partners
  6. Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures
  7. Supervise, train and develop team (Teachers)
  8. Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents as required
  9. Investigate and facilitate introduction of new technology, methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Supervise and inspect teachers and Head teachers regularly with specific focus on quality and professionalism
  2. Identify training needs of teachers and suggest for relevant trainings to meet the needs.
  3. Organize and conduct regular meetings with school/center management committees in view of improving the AEP activities
  4. Organize and conduct refresher trainings for school/ Centre Management Committees if necessary.
  5. Compile and submit monthly Education, protection and assistance activity reports.
  6. Liaise and coordinate with relevant authorities and communities at field level.
  7.  Identify and register learners for the education programme.
  8.  Update the learners’ and teachers’ data base.
  9. Identify and coordinate school/centre logistical needs.
  10. Liaise with the School Management Committee (SMC) during follow up of learners and in mobilizing local resources to facilitate teaching.
  11. Conduct community sensitization meetings on education programme.
  12. Guide, supervise and appraise project Assistants under the programme.

Our Ideal Candidate should demonstrate;

  • Two (2) years of experience from working as a Education Project Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Atleast 2 years of previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to speak any of the local languages of the beneficiaries
  • Knowledge of the local context
  • Thorough knowledge of the education systems in Uganda.
  • Ability to manage resources and achieving results
  • Ability to handle insecure environments
  • Skills of working with people
  • Skills of coping with change
